I believe elemental bismuth is the only substnace besides water whose solid state is less dense than its liquid state. Anybody know if that's true?
Gallium, acetic acid, antimony and silicon also have less dense solid states. Water isn't always denser than ice- if the ice's crystal structure is changed, it can actually be denser.
